Appenzell dog is a herding dog by nature and therefore requires Appenzeller always something to do. In a farm environment, they could suffocate in sheep or cattle, beware. Without enough exercise, you might get restless, so plenty of toys should always be space, movement and attention.
Appenzell dog is part of the family mountain dog Greater Swiss Mountain dog, Bernese, Appenzell and dog Entlebucher Mountain, all of which are similar in color and temperament, but vary in size. Mountain Dogs were originally used to help in the general farm work, but are also used as mountain rescue dogs in some areas of the Swiss mountains today.

The Appenzeller is one of the smaller breeds of mountain dog group of dogs with mature males grow to about 60 cm high. The Appenzeller had a beautiful tricolor coat and a robust constitution compared with similar breeds such as the Bernese Mountain Dog.

Work As with all large dogs, very active, the Appenzeller breed should also socialized early in life with other dogs and people and has regular activities and training available so that they can safely keep as a pet, either. According to the breed standard, dogs are lively, cheerful, and wary of strangers.
